Yoga dictionary. Dukkha

Patanjali in his Yoga sutras pays much attention to this. He considers such a term as “Dukha”. Also, this term is widely used in Buddhism, being one of the Central concepts of the Four Noble Truths proclaimed by the Buddha Shakyamuni. However, Patanjali considers such a phenomenon as Dukha in more detail and explains the causes.

From Sanskrit the term “Dukha” can be translated as `restless dissatisfaction`, `painful experience`, `anguish`, `unbearability`. The most popular translation for the Russian language is `suffering’, but this word does not fully reflect The essence that dukha carries. It is a deeper concept than mere suffering. Suffering often refers to specific painful experiences that arise from physical or mental discomfort. Dukha, on the other hand, means rather a tendency of the mind which arises for two reasons: because of the impermanence of the world and because of attachment to something or someone. And there are many levels of answer to this question. Can be called nationality, gender, profession, last resort, any personal quality. And most people are satisfied with this explanation, creating in their minds a certain image of themselves. And, it would seem, all is well, but the problem is that in the material world everything is changeable. And not only in the physical, but also in the psychological sphere. And when in a person’s life there are some radical changes and created in his mind the image of ” I ” is destroyed, it causes cognitive dissonance, and even plunges a person into depression and shock. Moreover, even without any serious upheaval, the personality of man is constantly changing, like a river — some tendencies of the mind fade, others, on the contrary, appear. Such changes are due to karma. Continue reading

Yoga blocks and their superpowers

The bricks are used to “raise the floor”, bring it closer to the student and thereby facilitate the presence in the asana.

And now more specifically: what gives the use of yoga blocks?

1. The correctness of the detuning

Often, when we really want to touch the floor, for example in Parshvottanasana (link), and the flexibility is not enough, we end up sacrificing safety and bend the back.

Ambitions-1, the right fulfilling asanas-0. Is it worth risking the lower back? Hardly.

Placing the blocks under the hands changes this situation: we get a stable support and carefully work out the asana without forcing events. Continue reading

Four kinds of karma

Being under the illusion that the world around us is not just hostile to us, but, moreover, unfairly hostile, we deprive ourselves of the opportunity to develop. Because if a person takes the position “I am perfect, and the world is imperfect”, such a worldview concept deprives a person not only of the opportunity to develop, but also of the very meaning of such development. After all, why make efforts if the cause of suffering is the injustice of the world?

Even 2500 years ago, Buddha Shakyamuni said that disbelief in the law of karma is the most severe ignorance into which a living being can fall. In the Sutra so called, the Sutra on the law of Karma, the Buddha explains in detail to Ananda and other disciples that man himself is the cause of both his happiness and his suffering. Yoga dictionary. Purusha

This is the original pure consciousness of the universe, which contemplates the female aspect-Prakriti. Purusha in interaction with Prakriti and under the influence of the gunas begins to create the material universe. Purusha in its original state is beyond the influence of the gunas. This state is called Nirguna.

“Purusha” in Sanskrit means ‘spirit’. In the Yoga sutras, Patanjali Purusha is represented as the original pure consciousness of the living entity, the attainment of which is the goal of yoga. In this case, it is not quite correct to talk about the attainment of this state as the achievement of something. The original nature of the living entity is not something that can be achieved or cannot be achieved. This primordial state of consciousness is already present in everyone, and it is only under the influence of the modes and individual karma of each living being that the illusion of Ego is created.
